Aspen, Colorado-based M Development has recently proposed the construction of two three-story, mixed-use buildings, including a parking garage, on Fifth Avenue South in Naples. The proposed site covers the 900 block, which includes the former location of the St. George & The Dragon restaurant, a notable local establishment. The plans for 936 Fifth Ave. S. and 975 Sixth Ave. S. were presented to the Naples Design Review Board for preliminary review during a public hearing.
Both projects involve three-story buildings with retail units on the ground floor and upper-level residential spaces, a concept that reflects the growing demand for multi-use structures that seamlessly blend living and commercial spaces in Naples’ downtown area.
The proposal has stirred local conversations, with a mix of enthusiasm and concern from the community. Residents shared their thoughts on social media, with comments reflecting a variety of opinions:
Nicholas Barcelo, a Naples native, expressed excitement over the development, saying, “I love it!! I was hoping for Restoration Hardware with their amazing rooftop restaurant, but hey, I’ll take it. The growth is great.”
James Innings voiced concerns about the city's infrastructure, stating, “Build Baby Build. Roads, parking, drainage doesn’t matter!”
Shari Elaine commented on the changing face of Naples' downtown, saying, “Making downtown look like anywhere USA,” echoing concerns about losing the area’s unique character.
Carrie Corridon Hazzard provided insight into M Development’s history, adding, “FYI, M Development is the company that bought 27 buildings from Hoffman last year for 43.5 million dollars.”
